AEMET have issued a yellow weather warning for suspended sand due to a calima over the island of Gran Canaria. The desert sand is blowing from the Sahara and will cause hazy skies and higher temperatures than usual over the weekend of Saturday 7th March until at least Sunday evening on the 8th. Although the warning is from Saturday, it was already very hazy today looking both out to sea and towards the mountains. In fact it was very hot yesterday when I was in Puerto de Mogan. All of the Canary Islands will be affected by this weather phenomenon, with wind warnings for the islands to the East also. You can see in this photo I shared earlier on Gran Canaria Blog's Facebook page just how hazy and full of sand the sky was today. Remember to stay hydrated and I will keep you updated.
